Let me paint a picture:
In the heart of a bustling city, a young woman named Lilian found herself entangled in a situation she could never have imagined. It all started with her turbulent relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Femi.
Femi had always been the adventurous type, but his reckless behaviour eventually pushed Lilian to end their relationship. However, their connection was far from over. In a misguided attempt to win Lilian back, Jake gave her a sleek, brand-new smartphone as a gift. What Lilian didn’t know was that the phone had a shadowy past.
Unbeknownst to her, the smartphone was stolen property. Femi had acquired it through dubious means, hoping that the extravagant gift would mend the rift between them. But his plan had far-reaching consequences.
One ordinary evening, while Lilian was waiting for a bus, she was approached by the police. They had received a tip about the stolen phone, and Lilian’s possession of it raised suspicions. With no knowledge of the phone’s dubious origins, she found herself in a difficult position.
Lilian was arrested and taken to the local police station. The officers questioned her about the phone, trying to determine whether she was complicit in the theft. Lilian was shocked and devastated, unable to provide any answers that would exonerate her.
During WIPSI’s outreach mission to the Female Correctional Centre in Surulere, Ondo Town, we had the privilege of meeting Lilian and learning about her story. At present, Lilian is awaiting her trial, and WIPSI is actively engaged in monitoring her legal proceedings. We are steadfast in our commitment to offering any necessary assistance and support to Lilian during this challenging time. We will continue to report this story as it develops.
